Rokytnice nad Jizerou is recreation, tourist and sport centre of west part Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). The centre is situated in marvellous valley, the domain is the Studenov range and the Kotel range that is as high as 1434 m above the sea-level. Rokytnice nad Jizerou is one of the places of the Giant Mountains region, that were settled as early as the 1st half of the 16th century. The first of its settlers were cutting woods, and also exploiting copper, led and silver. Some time later, they started weaving. Home made weaving was pushed back by factory production in the 19th century. There was local glass-making tradition, glass works were in operation even back in 16th century. A famous family of glassmakers - the Schürers lived here.
Tourists can reach mountains, as well as the Elbe source, the Hute Waterfall, historic settlements, or other well-known recreation centres at any time. Among the most interesting places belongs the Catholic church of St. Michael, the Town hall, Dvoračky, or the Village chapel.
There are great cross-country and hiking routes in the surrounding. There are many tows, a cableway, and winter hiking routes leading up to the ranges of surrounding hills and mountains. There are downhill courses of high quality set-up, there are snow rifles prepared if there is a lack of snow, and there is also a possibility of night skiing for greedy skiers. In summer time Rokytnice nad Jizerou offers a wide range of marked hiking routes and pathways, cycling tourist routes, bike lending offices and tennis courts. You can visit a skittle ground, a new bowling centre, a sport hall, saunas and fitness centres. There are lot of accommodation vacancies in hotels, boarding houses, apartments and private apartments. There are several homey wineries and pubs, discos, a cinema, bars, restaurants and bistros. All these places are ready to provide you with high quality services and to make the time of your staying in Giant Mountain even more comfortable.
